Namibia

Namibia is another planet. The Namib Desert - the oldest on Earth at 55 million years - stretches 2,000 km along the Atlantic coast. Towering red dunes at Sossusvlei. The skeletal trees of Deadvlei. The eerie ghost town of Kolmanskop. The wildlife-packed salt pans of Etosha. This is one of the most visually extraordinary countries in the world.

Namibia demands proper planning. Distances are vast, resupply points are sparse, and the landscape will genuinely humble you. Our overland itineraries are built around decades of local knowledge - exactly which tracks to take, where to camp under the Milky Way, and how to time your arrival at Sossusvlei before the crowds.

Where the desert meets the ocean

Few landscapes in the world create the same dissonance as the point where Namibia's ancient dunes crash into the freezing Atlantic. Swakopmund - part Bavarian village, part extreme adventure capital - sits at this collision point. From here you can skydive over 300m dunes in the morning and eat oysters by the ocean in the afternoon. This is one of Africa's great travel towns, and it sits at the heart of our overland routes.

The dry season (May–October) is ideal. The colors are most vivid at sunrise. We recommend arriving at Sesriem gate before opening (around 30-45 minutes before sunrise) for the best experience.
